We like this - a compact, ultra low power consumption waterproof display that attaches to a transponder or AIS receiver and prioritises a list of targets within range.
The AISWatchMate is a valuable tool to help avoid collisions at sea. Using the Universal Shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS) the AISWatchMate displays data from all AIS equipped vessels in your vicinity. Audible warning alarms are sounded if a potentially dangerous situation exists.
The alarm sounds whenever a ship is detected that will come dangerously close even though the ship may still be many miles away. You are alerted immediately with the closest point of approach (CPA) and the time until CPA.
Unique and customisable alarm and filter settings help to eliminate false alarms.
Ships and alarms are displayed in a prioritised order assisting you to safely navigate in crowded commerical shipping areas.
Complete AIS data is displayed for each ship to increase your situation awareness.
Key Features
Ultra-Low Power Consumption
Systems such as computers, chart plotters, and radars require substantially more power to operate than the AISWatchMate. As a result, they are often switched off during passages. Obviously a system that is turned off cannot provide you with critical warning information. The AISWatchMate is specifically designed to operate on ultra-low power. Since it consumes less than 100ma it can be left on at all times.
No Computer or Expensive Software Required
The AISWatchMate is a stand-alone instrument designed for reliability. Although it can be easily interfaced to computers and chart plotters, they are not necessary for its operation. The AISWatchMate combined with an AIS receiver/antenna and GPS are all you need. You don't need to buy, install, or maintain any additional components or software.
Minimizes false alarms
Other products with CPA alarms often have a high rate of false alarms when operating in congested areas. The AISWatchMate is designed to minimize false alarms by providing alarm and vessel filtering capabilities. Filters can easily be switched on or off and there is always an indication of how many vessels are being filtered.
Prioritised Targets
When operating in crowded situations a chart plotter or computer may display dozens of target icons on the screen. In places like the Bay of Panama or English Channel there may be over a hundred ships in the vicinity but many may pose no danger and there is no need to trigger an alarm or distract you from those ships that do require your attention. By prioritising vessels and alarms the AISWatchMate reduces clutter and helps you to focus on the vessels that are most important first.
Alarm Profiles
When your situation changes, such as from offshore to coastal, you may wish to change your alarm settings. The AISWatchMate allows you to match alarm settings with your situation as quickly as your situation changes without having to go through complicated setup procedures. TheAISWatchMate provides a single button selection for switching between Offshore, Coastal, Harbour or Anchored modes quickly and easily. Each profile can be customised and saved for future use.
