| The logger is a small device that logs NMEA data from one or two input ports, and writes the data directly to a standard USB memory stick. Both input ports are fully opto-isolated in compliance with the NMEA0183 specification. It is powered by an external 12/24V DC power supply, but only draws a few milliamps. Using a standard USB memory stick makes it much easier to transfer data to the computer afterwards - no messing about with memory cards, often in proprietary data formats. And data is stored as standard NMEA0183 format for easy processing. It is a simple device to install, with an external screw terminal block to take power and one or two NMEA inputs. There are 4 fastening holes to secure the unit in place. There is no configuration required, just a button to press when inserting or removing the memory stick, and LEDs to show the status of the logger. Although initially designed specifically for data logging in the TeamSurv project, the logger is available for purchase by anyone who needs to log NMEA data. This could be for recording data from a GPS or other instrument, e.g. to have a record of movements. Or it could be for use as a diagnostics tool for development and installation engineers, as you can easily take a snapshot of the data in the system without having to hook up your computer through a USB to NMEA converter. |
